Developments in Seychelles and the trends in our schools in ICT in
Education
As an educator I find
the use of ICT in teaching and learning fascinating. It definitely
requires that you keep up with the latest trends in technology, not only to use
them in your classrooms, but also so you are at the same level as your
students.
Kids these days learn a
lot faster when the learning environment matches the environment outside the classroom.
What we, as educators, can take from this and integrate into our everyday
classroom activities will make learning not only fun but easily accessible and
familiar.
Our primary schools in
Seychelles are lucky to have benefited from grants and projects from different
organisations, companies and other countries. Our students at the primary
level of education have wider access to technology compared to the students at
secondary level. Why this is so is an important question.
We can provide as much
professional development and training as is available out there to our teachers
and managers, but if the attitude towards ICT in education remains unchanged;
if policy makers and school managers cannot see the value of ICT in teaching
and learning, then teachers will continue to use the same traditional methods
they are used to.
This is an area where I
wish to share my views and show what teachers are doing with the technology in
their classroom, and share the experiences our students who have been exposed
to learning through technology.
This is where we are at
and what we're doing as a small country to improve the knowledge and skills of
our teachers in the 21st Century. Promoting the use of ICT in Education and improving on the access to technology
in schools to teachers and learners....
