Who should be responsible?
Providing education to our children so that they can achieve and become successful citizens in the growing economy is not solely the business of the Ministry of Education, the educators or the parents. It is everybody’s business…
As a private company, an NGO, a public sector company or any other government body, we are all responsible for the education in the country we choose to live and function as an entity. We may stand to the side and complain that the students emerging from the education system do not have the necessary skills to perform in the 21st Century; they are not innovative, creative or have good thinking and analytical skills…more so we complain that they lack specific skills for specific jobs…
How have you as an enterprise, as a company, or as an NGO contributed to the development of that particular student throughout his education in the school system?
What contribution have you made towards improving the access to technology so students can develop the analytical and creative skills they require to apply for that job your company has to offer?Get on Board and Get the Training...
Catching up to a fast moving train is not easy...but you can, if speed up.
The developments in technology move at a very fast pace. For most teachers, who have to cope with daily lesson preparations and classroom management issues, keeping up with the latest trends in technology is not easy.
Either way you may choose to look at it, improving ICT skills is essential for any teacher, and bringing technology into the classroom and the lesson has many benefits.
It may not be easy for those who have never tried it or have certain fear, but as with everything, training, practice and retraining makes it easy. One just needs to have the self-confidence and desire to bring the change into the classroom.
The real questions, however:
How does one get the necessary training and professional development one would like?
How do you implement the new skills in your classroom?
What support do you get from your school management to implement the new skills in your teaching?
How do you evaluate the effectiveness of the new skills on your students' learning and achievement?
